Finding Wisdom Beyond the Noise

My Perimenopause Rite of Passage

Moving through menopause has been one of the most challenging times of my life…. No one prepared me for it. I had the “Meno” discussion with Mom several times and heard friends’ and clients’ stories about their journeys. They used to tell me that I’d most likely experience it like my mom and grandmother. But while mom had an easy transition….for me, it is a different story. What bothers me is that there is so much talk about it now and so many claims that are not backed up by research of any type, just to monetise it. And because it is such a personal experience, we hear about so many different symptoms, different stories, and many claims that, coupled with the loss of estrogen, make us very confused.

And so, I decided to take a break from social media, where menopause seems to be the hot topic of the year. Although I understand the need to talk about it, I also know that too many claims have been made about it that are either untrue or sometimes dangerous. It’s crucial to approach these claims cautiously and be discerning about the information we consume and pass on. I cannot stress enough the importance of always verifying the sources and thoroughly verifying the research behind them.

Thank Goddess, my practice and rituals allow me to see my menopause journey through the lens of energy and spirituality, too. When things get overwhelming, I have learned to use my spiritual gifts and tools to help me move through every phase.

Although menopause is often associated with challenging symptoms, it can also bring many positive changes.

So, today, I decided to look at its positive, funny, and empowering aspects.

While diving into the spiritual and uplifting aspects of this rite of passage, I stumbled across many interesting things. What I am sharing in this post is just a tiny portion of this sacred journey, and I hope that when it gets “too much,” you allow yourself to take a break and find joy, pleasure, and beauty in your life to help you along the way.

1.      We no longer need menstrual products like pads, tampons, or cups.

2.      After menopause, pregnancy is no longer a concern, allowing freedom from birth control. Sex can become more relaxed without the concern of unintended pregnancy.

3.      We care less about societal pressures and focus more on personal fulfilment, empowerment and a new sense of self.

4.      This stage can often spark personal growth, new perspectives, and deeper wisdom.

5.      Many women find menopause to be a time to explore their sexuality in a new way, with intimacy becoming more about connection and finding pleasure in different ways.

6.      Many women find menopause spiritually transformative as they focus more on their inner life and personal growth.

7.      As we gain more clarity about ourselves, relationships can become more authentic and meaningful, whether with family, friends, or partners.

8.      From a spiritual perspective, menopause can be a profound and transformative experience. It is a time of transition and transformation, spiritual growth during which we may reflect deeply on our lives, relationships, and purpose.

9.      Menopause is part of life's natural rhythm, and when we reach this stage, we may hear a deep calling to realign with the natural cycles. It can be a time to reconnect with nature and its rhythms, fostering a profound sense of harmony, acceptance, and a feeling of being in tune with the world around us.

10.  Menopause is sometimes associated with heightened intuition and a deepening connection to inner wisdom. This 'inner wisdom' can be seen as the accumulation of life experiences and knowledge that guides women through this phase. It's a sense of knowing that comes from within, helping women make decisions and navigate the changes of menopause. We may feel more attuned to our spiritual selves and gain insights that guide us through this phase of life.

11.  As women release their roles in fertility and caregiving, menopause can be seen as a time to let go of societal expectations and rediscover personal passions and aspirations. It's a period of renewal, self-discovery, and empowerment, during which we can look forward to the future with excitement and optimism.

12.  Spiritual practices during menopause, such as rituals, meditation, mindfulness, reflective journaling, sacred sexual practices, tantra, womb healing, and more… can support emotional and mental well-being and provide tools for managing the changes and challenges of this phase.

13.  Spiritual communities and practices offer women a supportive environment during menopause. Sharing experiences, rituals, and teachings can provide a deep sense of comfort and a feeling of being understood and heard, fostering a strong sense of belonging during this transformative time.

14.  Overall, the spiritual side of menopause encourages women to embrace this transition as an opportunity for growth, self-awareness, and spiritual awakening. However, it's essential to acknowledge that this journey may not always be smooth. There may be challenges and misconceptions about this threshold. So remember that it is about honouring one's journey, nurturing our body, mind, and spirit, and finding meaning in this natural phase of life, even in the face of these challenges.

I hope this helped.

With Mother’s Grace
